Improved material properties can be achieved by the addition of selected fillers. These fillers extend performance characteristics and allow for wider application - particularly in demanding thermal stability and load support situations. In addition, the frictional and thermal properties of PTFE remain generally unaffected.
The glass-filled PTFE grades, GL25 and GLI5, show improved wear and creep resistance compared with unfilled PTFE, while the chemical resistance is virtually unaffected. B40, a bronze filled compound, has a high thermal conductivity resulting in excellent bearing properties at high speeds, particularly where unhardened shafts are used.
